Wisteria Cottage Watlington in the Chilterns AONB (Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty) is an attractive self catering holiday cottage, nearly 200 years old, made from local brick with a Welsh slate roof.

Wisteria Holiday Cottage is small but perfectly formed and is a perfect self catering holiday cottage for a person on their own, a couple, 2 friends or a small family. Stay here to watch Red Kites soaring above, walk the Ridgeway National Trail which crosses the Chilterns AONB or visit Henley upon Thames, Marlow, Oxford or Windsor. You can even catch a bus from junction 6 of the M40 at Lewknor 3 miles away into London for a day out or alternatively there are stations 10 miles away at High Wycombe, Princes Risborough, Henley or Cholsey near Wallingford.

For those enjoying food, we have some lovely gastronomic experiences close by but you need to book your table well in advance as famous chefs aren’t found everywhere! Wisteria Cottage Watlington is also just 20 minutes from Bicester Designer Outlet which is a great day out.

Wisteria Cottage Watlington, also known as Chilterns Holiday Cottage, is just a short walk from this delightful Medieval town, reputedly the smallest in England. Here you will find 2 old streets with independent shops, a cafe, a deli, pubs, takeaways and a supermarket. There used to be a brewery here so take a stroll around and see if you can identify any of the many old pubs which are now houses. This is one of the towns used as a filming location for “Midsomer Murders” and you can follow the walking filming trail around the town or join an organised minibus tour which takes you around a wider area.

Wisteria Cottage Watlington is cosy and full of character features like low ceilings downstairs, (be careful please!) old pine doors with latches, wall and ceiling beams but it also offers modern comforts like a new downstairs bathroom with slightly short bath and overhead shower, a mini logburner, gas central heating to all rooms, a well equipped kitchen and comfortable beds with new mattresses. The double bed has a luxury Hypnos mattress whereas the single bedroom has a memory foam one. Both bedrooms have blackout to ensure a good nights sleep, a garden view and handfitted wardrobes/drawers. In addition the bigger bedroom of Wisteria Cottage Watlington has a small tv and a fan in case summer nights are warm.
There are only 8 stairs leading upstairs from the kitchen but head height is slightly restricted. There is a handrail but we are unable to fit child gates. We are also unable to provide a fireguard around the logburner but can provide a travel cot and toys upon advance request. We provide dog covers for the small leather sofa and the 2 tubchairs and the small folding pine dining table has folding chairs within it. Wisteria Cottage Watlington is a cosy retreat in the Chilterns, perfect for a romantic stay and for those who enjoy walking straight from the door. Just across the road is a footpath which leads directly to the Ridgeway National Trail and the Chiltern Way and the South Oxfordshire Way is close by. We have lots of maps, walking guides and the like for you to use if you so wish.

We have private parking spaces for 2 cars and an EV untethered rapid charging point nearby available at a small extra cost if required. This is 7.2kw and 32amps with a universal fitting. You just need to bring your 3m plus cable. There are very few EV charging points locally so having an EV charging point for our guests to use is very useful.

Price per week ranges from £550 to £800 with a 3 night minimum stay. Many of our guests make full use of a weekend away by arriving on a Friday after 15.30 which is our bookdirect checkin time and book 3 nights so they can leave on the evening of the Sunday thereby making full use of Wisteria Cottage in the Chilterns AONB.
